| Acne and Antibiotics |
Acne and AntibioticsPropionibacterium acnes (P. acnes) is the anaerobic bacterium that causes acne. The bacteria can be found in the pores of the skin. The resistance of P. acnes to commonly used antibiotics has been growing constantly. Antibiotics are used for more severe cases of acne. With increasing resistance of P. acnes worldwide they are becoming less and less effective. Commonly used antibiotics either orally or topically
are erythromycin, clindamycin and tetracycline. They should be used only on prescription.
