The Most Popular Acne Myths

The Most Popular Acne Myths

Myth 1 - You just have to let acne run its course. That's absolutely not true. The truth is, acne can be cleared up by a proper treatment. If the acne products you have tried haven't worked, consider seeing a dermatologist. With the products available today, there is no reason why someone has to endure acne or get acne scars. You can have a clean skin.

Myth 2 - Acne is caused by poor hygiene. If you believe this myth, and wash your skin hard and very frequently, you would actually make your acne worse. Acne is not caused by surface skin oils or dirt. Although excess oils, dead skin and a day's accumulation of dust on the skin looks unsightly, they should not be removed by hand scrubbing. Vigorous washing and scrubbing will actually irritate the skin and make acne worse. The best approach to hygiene and acne: Gently wash your face twice a day with a mild soap, pat dry--and use an appropriate acne treatment for the acne.

Myth 3 - Acne is caused by the food we eat. According to some scientific studies there is not a connection between food and acne. In other words, acne is not caused by food. Not chocolate. Not fat food. Nonetheless, some people really belive that certain kinds of food affect their acne. In that case, avoid those foods. Besides, eating a balanced diet always makes sense. However, if acne is being treated properly, according to the scientific evidence there's no need to worry about food affecting the acne.

Myth 4 - The sun will help get rid of acne. The sun may work in the short-term to hasten the clearing of existing acne while reddening your skin, thus blending your skin tone with red acne marks. However, a sun burn should be avoided because it is actually skin damage. Many people hurt their skin, while trying to get rid of acne. Sun exposure causes irritation which can make acne worse. People will often notice their skin breaking out as it heals from sun damage. The sun is a short-term band-aid which will often bite back with more acne in the weeks following exposure. Having said that, I don't want to give the impression that the sun is somethin bad, because it is not. we recommend limiting sun exposure on acne prone areas of your body, but it's important for everyone to get his/her dose of sunlight, because this way we get the daily vitamin D. Some exposure from time to time is not only unavoidable, but is perfectly okay.

Myth 5 - Acne is just a cosmetic disease. Yes, acne is not a serious threat to a person's physical health but it does affect the way people look. However, acne can result in permanent physical scars--plus, and unfortunately can affect the way people feel about themselves to the point of affecting their lives. Acne is 100 % treatable skin problem so if you are experiencing such a problem you may check our recommended acne treatment.
